Usage
I've mainly done this song with young children. I like to get them all standing in a circle and then just do the song. For the chorus I move around the circle offering to shake hands. As the chorus ends I step back into the circle and led the next verse. I continue in this way until the song is done. The last verse calls for everyone to join hands and shake - the tempo gets so fast it is very possible and fun to end up in a heap on the floor.
An alternative to doing the song immediately is to first get children to teach you Head and Shoulders. Start doing this song but introduce parts of the body from Shake! For example "Head, shoulders, knees and elbows, knees and elbows!" Young children will be happy to correct you.
Follow Up
Do Twenty Twenty and give commands that involve shaking. For example "Shake your head!" "Shake Your Elbows!"
Another activity for toddlers and youngsters is Nose Nose Nose. Children who are a little older might like playing Mosquito
Request
If you do try this song with older children (nine and up) let me know how it goes. I'll do the same.
